Pastor’s Perspective 01-22-19

One of the best Bible studies I have ever done is Experiencing God by Blackaby and King. The reason I am drawn to it is because its purpose is to know and do the will of God. That ought to be the top priority for every Christian. I have never forgotten the simple premise of the study: Find out where God is working and join Him.
Over 250 people attended a banquet last Friday evening here at our church celebrating the 10-year anniversary of His Outreach Worldwide. HOW’s vision is simple and clear. “To reach children of the world with the gospel and love of Jesus Christ.” Because that vision is aligned perfectly with what God is doing in the world today, He has blessed this ministry abundantly. The statistics shared at the banquet are staggering. Habbakkuk Kariuki from Nairobi, Kenya is HOW’s Director of Africa. His ministry takes him into many countries to share the gospel and train pastors and church leaders. Some of those countries are so hostile to Christianity the training is conducted “underground.” He shared a report – country by country – of the number of people who have made professions of faith in Jesus Christ. Over 14,000 in 2018 alone!
I was struck during his presentation by the specificity of his numbers. Number of Bibles distributed. Number of “Sharing Jesus with Children around the World” booklets distributed. Number of training sessions and people trained. Number of professions of faith by adults and by children 12 years of age and older. None of the numbers were rounded. They were specific. Each number represents a face and a name. And a soul that will now spend eternity in heaven.
It all started when God prompted one of our members in the middle of the night to write a simple booklet that shares the plan of salvation in rhyme that could be used to communicate God’s love to children around the world. More than 1,000,000 copies of that little booklet have since been printed in 69 languages (including Braille) and distributed in 159 countries. Children and adults can read about God’s love for them through Christ in their own language. Some are hearing about Jesus for the very first time.
Find out where God is working and join Him. We have. Our church supports HOW in our Ministry Resource Plan. The return on our investment has been exponential as God blesses our obedience to fulfill the Great Commission.
