Shannon French – Voice Instructor
Experience:
Shannon French has been lauded as a performer with a “silky voice” and “powerful stage presence.”
Originally from Texas, Shannon started her performance career in musical theatre. After graduating from Louisiana State University, she went to Germany and performed in numerous musicals. Her most memorable was Guiliette Trapani in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s, Aspects of Love.
At ease on the operatic as well as the recital stage, her portrayal of Hansel in Hansel and Gretel was considered by critics, “the most believable Hansel one has seen.” Some of her other roles include Orlofsky, Cherubino, Suzuki, Flora in La Traviata, Mary Warren in The Crucible and Zerlina in Don Giovanni. She has performed with such companies as Altenburg City Opera in Germany, Long Leaf Opera, Opera Theatre of the Rockies, Natchez Opera, Opera Company of North Carolina, and Capital Opera Raleigh. On the recital stage, Shannon has presented song recitals in Paris, Stuttgart, and in Moscow at the prestigious Dom Zhurnalista theatre and the FIAN Institute. She will be seen next in Richard Wall’s A Time For Singing, in Chapel Hill, NC.
She has performed principle roles in theatre and musical theatre throughout the USA and Germany. Her favorite roles include Aldonza in Man of LaMancha, Tuptim in The King and I, and Evangeline in the American premiere of Cole Porter’s Nymph Errant, which earned her a nod from the Denver Post Desk Critic’s Award for best leading actress in a musical.

Megan Kenny- Suzuki Violin Instructor
Experience:
Megan Murphy Kenny, violinist, holds a Master of Music degree in violin performance from the Yale School of Music, where she was a Harry and Margaret Simeone Scholar and recipient of the Harriet G. Fox Memorial Prize, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame. Her teachers have included Syoko Aki, Carolyn Plummer, and William Haroutounian. Ms. Kenny has performed in master classes for artists such as Almida and Roland Vamos, Pamela Frank, and the Muir Quartet and she received chamber coachings from Martin Beaver of the Tokyo Quartet while at Yale. She is a recipient of the National Symphony Orchestra Youth Fellowship.
An active orchestral musician, Ms. Kenny has performed with the Boston Philharmonic, Civic Symphony Orchestra of Boston (Associate Concertmaster), Bangor Symphony, New Bedford Symphony, Waterbury Symphony, Eastern Connecticut Symphony, South Bend Symphony, Billings Symphony, Rimrock Opera Company, Great Falls Symphony, String Orchestra of the Rockies, Synchrony Chamber Orchestra, South Bend Symphony, Tar River Philharmonic, Opera Carolina, and the Moscow Chamber Orchestra in their 2003 Carnegie Hall performance. She returned to Carnegie’s Weill Hall in April 2009 with David Michael Wolff to perform in the New York debut of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.1 as arranged by Frederick Chopin for piano soloist and string quintet. Ms. Kenny is currently a member of the Fayetteville Symphony and the Carolina Philharmonic and performs regularly as a freelance musician throughout the southeast. As a soloist and chamber musician, Ms. Kenny performs annually as a faculty member of the Red Lodge Music Festival and was recently featured as a guest artist with the Meritage Quartet in a concert series throughout Montana. She is a faculty member at University of North Carolina Pembroke and the Snyder Music Academy in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Robert Williams – Voice Instructor
Robert Weston Williams, baritone, is a native of Newberry, South Carolina. He holds the Bachelor of Arts degree in Music/Vocal Performance from Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where he studied with Dr. James Arthur Williams, the Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Choral Conducting from the University of South Carolina where his teachers included Dr. Donald Gray and Dr. Larry D. Wyatt. In June 2009, he was a featured soloist in the Snyder Youth Choir Music/Mission Tour of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago. In January 2009, he toured Israel and was a featured soloist at the Theater of Caesarea, on the Sea of Galilee, and the Garden of the Tomb. Dr. Williams was a featured soloist in Rome, Italy in 2003 and 2005 with Operafestival di Roma. He has been a featured soloist in Alice Parker’s A Sermon from the Mountain with the Campbell University Choral Society, Orff’s Carmina Burana with the Robeson Choral Society, andHandel’s Messiah with several groups, including the Augusta Choral Society. He is a founding member of Long Leaf Opera, and has sung leading or supporting roles in several operas with LLO including the world premier of Joel Feigan’s Twelfth Night, Hoiby’s The Tempest, and Floyd’s Susannah. Other operatic appearances for Dr. Williams include La traviata and Amahl and the Night Visitors with Capital Opera Raleigh, L’Italiana Algerie with Columbia Lyric Opera, and Porgy & Bess with Cape Fear Regional Theatre. Dr. Williams has been featured with the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra on several occasions, the most recent being when he served as Narrator for their 2008 performance of Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf. As an educator, he is an Associate Professor of Music at Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, North Carolina, where he teaches applied voice, music history, choral conducting, and serves as coordinator of humanities courses and assistant conductor of the Concert Choir. Prior to joining the faculty at FSU, Dr. Williams held teaching positions at Barber-Scotia College in Concord, North Carolina, and at Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina. He is an Instructor of Voice at The Snyder Music Academy of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church in Fayetteville, where he is also the Assistant Conductor of the Snyder Youth Choir. Additionally, Dr. Williams is Director of Music at Pittsboro United Methodist Church in Pittsboro, North Carolina, and holds membership in the National Association of Teachers of Singing, the American Choral Directors Association and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
